it takes 21 days to develop a habit

writing is a crucial part of life. crucial meaning important or essential. thus, I have decided to make a pact with myself to try to write everyday. i mean, like write. not filling out a math worksheet or german notebook page, but creatively thinking through something and applying it using written language.

luckily for me I'm in creative writing right now, so I have to :) but I also plan to blog here everyday, even if no one reads it. because it's important to document our lives, our failures and our successes. how else will the people in the future know what life was like?

I like to imagine that one day my grandson or daughter might somehow stumble upon an archive of things I've written, either electronically or on paper, and take the time read and appreciate it. so, if nothing else, I write for those I don't even know.

i think it's cool that you think about what future people will think about your writing and how they will be able to learn from it. i think it is noble and shows how you care about people.

do you value writing for yourself at all? i mean, do you think that it's important for yourself as an art form or as a way to clear your head? where do YOU fall in your blogging endeavors?

on the topic of habits: this guy wrote a book about not complaining. he made this bracelet that said "no complaining" and every time he complained he had to switch which wrist it was on. the goal was to go 21 days without complaining to make it a habit. he did, but it took like a year.

on the topic of your topic: i do these sorts of things for the very same reason. maybe somebody will stumble on my thoughts and find them worthwhile or helpful. i like your idea of writing everyday. i mean... i'm sure you can find something to inspire you on a daily basis and this will just make you look harder, in fact i might steal your ideas. i also blog and write so that i can go back and read them. it's interesting to review the person who you used to be through written passages. anyway. i hope your habit forms.
